Early Childhood Education Academy

 

PURPOSE: The Early Childhood Education Program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the Early Childhood Industry:  planning, management, finance, technical and production skills; underlying principles of technology; labor community, health safety, and environmental issues; and developmentally appropriate practices for children birth through age eight.

 

PROGRAM STRUCTURE: The Pensacola High School Early Childhood Education program is a four year major area of interest; this academy program focuses on high demand careers. Participating students can pursue employment opportunities or a post-secondary education. The program consists of 600 hours (120 hours of classroom instruction and 480 hours of direct work with children) with four occupational completion points which results in the issuance of a Florida Department of Education Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC).

 

AVAILABLE INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS:

Certificates issued by the Florida Department of Children and Families (40 hour certificate includes):

  • Behavior Observation & Screening
  • Infant & Toddler Appropriate Practices
  • Preschool Appropriate Practices
  • Health, Safety & Nutrition
  • Rules & Regulations
  • Child Abuse & Neglect
  • Young Children 3 to 5 years

 

Upon completion of the program the participants will also receive:

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate of Completion of ECE 1 (180 hours of training)
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate of Completion of ECE 2/3 (540 hours of training)
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate of Completion of ECE 4 (600 hours of training)
  • Early Literacy (5 hours of credit)
  • CPR certified in infant, toddler & adult CPR

 

*Upon graduation, and successful program completion the student is eligible to receive their Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC).  Qualified students may also apply for their Child Development Associate which is a post-secondary certification.
