Application Process

International Baccalaureate Program!

 

Upcoming Events for Interested Students/Families

  • Open House Event for prospective students will be announced in the near future. After a general overview about the IB Program in the PHS Auditorium, a school tour including classroom presentations will be featured.
  • Current IB Parents and Students will be available to ask questions

 

Admission Requirements

Applications are scored based on the following: 

  • A/B average on most recent report card
  • FSA score in Reading within the past year- 85 percentile (standardized tests within the past year will be acceptable for students who did not take Escambia County State Testing)
  • FSA Math score within the past year- 75 percentile (standardized tests within the past year will be acceptable for students who did not take Escambia County State Testing)
    • The district county office will request testing records from the school
  • Four satisfactory teacher recommendations in different subject areas. Students will enter current teacher e-mail addresses for Math, Science, History and English in the online application. Teachers will receive the recommendation requests via e-mail and will submit them electronically.
    • No serious discipline infraction or repeated history of disciplinary problems
    • No persistent attendance problems

You may provide a letter of explanation to the IB Office by emailing mstack@escambia.k12.fl.us if one of the above requirements was unable to be met due to extenuating circumstances. 

 

Admission Timeline

  • The online application was available from November 5th-December 20th 2018 for all students applying. No late applications will be accepted after this time unless families moved into the district after the deadline.
  • Acceptance letters will be sent from the district office in early February
  • Acceptances must be confirmed to secure spot in the IB Program by February 22nd
  • Pathways to Success Curriculum Fair is held in late February for accepted students to learn about courses, electives, clubs and athletics at PHS.

 

Shadowing

Prospective students are able to visit the IB program and shadow a current student for the day!  Please contact the IB Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Stack, at 850-595-1500 ext.244 to make an appointment at least one week in advance.

  • The Shadowing Program is available during the application process, November 5th to December 20th, as a way for students to decide if they would like to apply for the IB Program.
  • Visits are best on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in order for prospective students to see a typical school day.
  • Please arrive at 8:15am in the IB office.  Parents should pickup their child at 3:10 in the front of the school.
  • Please complete the following consent and release form which must be notarized and bring to the IB office on the day of shadowing.  Please contact Mrs. Stack for questions about the form.
